Rover 75 boot full of water
Hi all,
Further to my problems with the onboard computer, I have been told today by my oldest lad who is loooking after the car while I am away. He has has to bail about 20 ltrs of water out of the boot, the water looks to be getting on on the poassenger side of the boot. This I suspect is why the car is behaving strange because of all the water in the boot. How easy is it to replace the boot seal and would be the most likely cause for the water getting ion to the boot. Thanks to all who reply |

The boot seal is easy enough to replace just pulls off and pushes back on

I believe mine was through the N/S rearlight, the seal was split. re-joined it and also silicon sealed it.

You also need to check the seals on the rear chrome body side finishers - pull the side boot liner away and you will find a total of 5 holes with clips coming through. These can leak - if you find water/damp then so silicone sealant on each will stop the leak.

I had this on my 75 and the silicone sealent on the 5 holes cured the leak into my boot.

Very unlikely to be the boot seal unless it's totally shot.
Start with the rear light gaskets, as they are made from a single strip and glued. Alas the gle fails and you get a large gap at the join.Take both sides off (I glued mune with super glue) and when dry swap sides that they were on. Waistline trim clips are another favorite. Check the air vent that lives in the panel behind the bumper that lets air out when you shut the boot (One on each side)

water in boot?
There are a number of things you can try if you still get water in the boot. This just proves really that the Rover 75 has true Rover pedigree as the Rover SD1 and the Rover 800 series all leaked in the boot too. I actually bought some Lexus style lights from Ebay which fit more snuggly into the rear light recess and look the dogs wotsits which stopped my water leak.
Firstly techinical advice...a 3/16th drill bit on the floor of the boot to let water out and then paint it with Jenalite rusteater and preventor then Hammerite to protect it further. Secondly with todays energy crisis pour washing up powder in the boot and add washing and then a local trip to the shops. I find this is far superior to a twin tub and clothes get washed in all directions and not just a drum that you find in a conventional washing maching. Thirdly you can make a feature of your boot complete with goldfish and norty gnomes with fishing rods on a rockery. Hey at least you would have a Rover 75 that folk talked about. Stand out in the crowd. |
