Default Is it time for another insurance rant???

So, the launch car is currently my daily driver & the policy is up for renewal on Wednesday - renewal is £375 fully comp & i am quite happy with that.
In the near future there is a ZT190 heading into the family which will need insuring so i think time to put the launch car as a classic & the ZT as daily driver -simples Not
The Zt as a standard car to insure £375 fully comp but it has front & rear spoilers & some skirts so when i declare them ( with the car still at the insurers standard valuation ) £900!!!!
Spoke to Peter Best insurance re classic insurance - Launch car £192, ZT ( declaring spoilers etc ) £192.
Next thought - i work in a bodyshop & ( should the worst happen ) i bump my car i wouldn't claim anyway & just repair it myself so, do i look at third party fire & theft cover?
Spoke to the brokers re ZT with spoilers 3rd TPFT £400 then i am told ' i haven't applied the 9 years no claims bonus you have', this is then applied & the price changes to £400
I have been in the trade for 30 years & i know we get hammered for it when it comes to insurance but i will never understand where the premiums come from
So it looks like the launch car will be staying as my daily driver & the ZT will be the classic.

Rant over

Steve.

Insurance is just a racket. Full stop. I can understand why people fail to get renewals when they are due. I have not had an accident since 2002, and that was a 'no blame' accident. Seems as though it does not make any difference if you are 'clean' or not, you still get hammered at renewal time.

What do you expect? In this modern world of litigation, cameras, neck injuries, too many stupid people driving skills, lack of respect for highway code and so on, do you expect premiums to go down

On the flip side, just had my multicar renewal notice come through.
75 1.8T Saloon 14k miles £280
75 2.0D Tourer 5k miles £180
Freelander TD4 14k miles £264
3500s P6 5k miles £78

A swift phone call to them and it is now.
£211
£91
£187
£68

And just like that the annual premium drops from £802 to £527, a saving of £275. Which kind of makes you feel as though you are getting ripped of in the first place

Just had my renewal for my MGF, £194 fully comp, me and the wife, 3000 miles per year.
Not bad I thought, it was a new policy last year with not much NCB built up as yet, until I read the details. They had added their own breakdown cover, (without asking), which added £48 to the total premium. A quick phone call got my premium down to £146.
I asked why they'd added the breakdown without asking, "it's our policy, sir"
How many folk would just pay the renewal without questioning it. This is how they make their money

I'm in the AA
