tar remover will remove tar (obviously) but wont get rid of rust spots and baked on soot.

Straying slightly from topic, but maybe not far enough to warrant a new thread, on my CDT the exhaust bends downwards at the tailpipes, and also stops a tad short of the end of the car - so the pipes are not visible. But they do leave a tiny soot mark on the bumper.
Anyone fitted chrome trims to their CDT, to extend the pipes a little, and if so any details, please? Thanks Malcolm

The black deposits on the bumper were the main reason I fitted my Chrome pipes. And yes tar remover will get rid of baked on soot. Dave T Last edited by Duotone; 4th September 2008 at 16:19.. |

Eamonn ( CDTI) has fitted non genuine chrome pipes to his CDT, cost from E bay arond £12 each from memory.
They have to be hacksawed down in length but fit well and look good, if Eamonn doesnt pick uo this thread he wont mind you pming him for more details, he's a top bloke who has helped me a lot !

Thanks for the pointers chaps, Tar remover was good but wouldn't remove the really stubborn stuff, in the end I used the Cif liquid normally used for pots and pan and it really worked a treat - I couldn't believe how well it worked!
I also had some alloy wheels to clean off-the car, the insides had caked on brake-dust - a good scrub with a nail brush and some Cif and water and the surface was white again - incredible! I'm sure someone will tell me know that Cif has some nuclear material in it that will noty only dissolve the alloy in my wheels but will give my car 4 heads and TB ... butu it wasn't on too long so I reckon it is OK! I notice that as clearly it is "abraisive" the wheels etc needed a polish after a good wash and some rinsing and they look great now!
