Default Fitting replacement 12S (grey) socket

The cover on our grey socket has snapped

I can't find any information on just replacing the cover, so will doubtless have to fit a new unit - can't keep sticking tape over it to hold the old cover on, as it's just messy!

So... Any advice on this? Seems it's just a case of disconnecting the old one, and then screwing the wires back into a new one. Wiring diagrams suggest the only exterior function is reversing lights, everything else being interior such as fridge, battery charging etc. Problem will be that I won't be able to test anything until we pick the van up for it's next trip out, so also considering a tester. Again, anyone got any experience of something like one of these?

Any advice appreciated!

Tester seems a bit of a faff. Can't you just use a multimeter?

Technically, yes! But... I don't have a multimeter

Not difficult to do, but if you are unfamiliar with such things I would do two things:

a) Disconnect car battery first (just in case)
b) Move 1 wire at a time from old socket to new. You can normally remove the centre portion of the socket from the main case which makes access much easier.

Both elements make a lot of sense!

instead of a tester or multi meter, light bulb and 2 bits of wire.

I just removed mine and refitted it but did disconnect the car battery first. did not use a multi meter. I did make a note of which colour wire goes to which terminal. should not be a problem
