Default Single din surround

I have a facelift ZT and I have noticed that with an aftermarket head unit, you cannot fit the single din finisher and the head unit as the hole is too small. Was it designed just for the factory head unit? This is what my finisher looks like.

Do I need an aftermarket surround to fit properly? Or will the non bevelled (maybe earlier) surround be better - as here ?

The head unit fits fine in the inner plastic frame, but the top flush finishing plastic will not fit without cutting, it would seem.

In case it is not clear - this is what I am looking for - is this an aftermarket surround?

Plenty on EBay, I've got a Philips DAB fitted with one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_fr...er+75&_sacat=0

Thanks Ronnie.

So this was MG Rover being idiots (or more likely making sure you bought their upgrades as less faff) and having proprietary finisher sizes, rather than a din sized slot?

Really don't know Andrew, I'm certainly not qualified to comment on Rover/MG history, but I just bought my surround, from EBay, with the cubby opening above the radio, & it fits as it should

I replaced my CD80 like in your second picture with an aftermarket DAB single din. When fitted it looks like your third picture. The surround is the same and a genuine MGR part. I would say that third picture is therefore a genuine one and not an aftermarket surround.

Thanks for that. The first one (as per mine) is just a little too small. Highly annoying. Will have to hunt one down.

I've been in my garage this morning and have a spare if you'd like it. How's £10 posted sound? I asked on the forum for one some time ago. A member sent me one and I then picked up another when another member very kindly found me a radio I was looking for in a scrapped ZT.

Many thanks to Stewart (Coups) for the DIN fascia surround.
