Question Manual gear selector replacement.

Has anyone replaced the gear selector on a 75? my unit has come adrift and stuck in first gear. Have been advised the front seats, console, front exhaust and heat shield must be removed for access, no easy fix then ? Time is critical.

Haven't actually done this , but the selector box at the gear lever end appears to bolt on from underneath with 4 screws so I don't see why the seats and console would need to come out
Remove gearknob and trim plate from inside . You will need to disconnect the 2 cables from the gearbox selector plate , under the battery box , then drop the exhaust and remove the heatshield . All should then be revealed , and remove from below
I have been thinking about doing this on my v6 to lubricate the cables ; hopefully it should be a bit easier on your 1.8
If you get the chance to take any pics , it would make a good How-To !

I think Haynes states the console has to be removed, but as you say it does bolt on from underneath, will let you know.

You just need to remove gear knob as stated in other post.
