nice pics Colin.
Same here Dave, keep meaning to go,instead just listen for the noise, then look out the front door, as you know I'm just a tad south of the airport myself.
I was hoping I would have seen some planes at the airport on Saturday while getting the air con regas done at Bank Top garage, there was a trio of stunt planes came to land, but were too far away to get pictures.

Default Nearly lost the Hurricane on Sunday

You may be interested to know that we nearly lost the Hurricane on Sunday. On its way back to Coningsby the Spitfire Pilot noticed oil pouring out. Few seconds later the pilot couldn't see , oil pressure going. Mayday called . Full fire turnout and fortunately both Hurricane and pilot got down in one piece. A few minutes earlier in flight and he would have had no engine and an inevitable crash landing.
I was there when he came in. Big relief all round.
That Hurricane has had a few scrapes in its time but that could have been terminal.

There are so few left flying they are very cherished and well looked after but we have to remember their age. Things will go wrong from time to time but both on ground and air they are in great hands.

Did they stop the engine on the runway or taxi it? Glad they rescued the situation.

Just goes to show how "Few" there are; I was only marvelling at RIAT that we had five in the air at one time.

Mostly the lovely Spitfire, what was marvelling me was that the Five were Hurricanes.

They are a tough old bird the hurricanes they shot down more planes in the battle of britain than any other plane they dont get the recognition they deserve.
