Greenhouse advice please.
Hi all,
Bought a small, 8x6, greenhouse for SWMBO, it has double skin perspex with a reeded design instead of glass, have built some staging, have you seen the price of these things, and got an auto vent opener. The thing is the wife says we need to get some shading net to stop the sun burning the plants (she got a book on greenhouses) but I reckon its not needed as the perspex is "diffused" but having second thoughts and if her plants get sunburn i'm dead. Can anyone help me out here. Can't wait for winter, then it will need a heater and insulation. !!!!!

The easiest would seem to be green "netting" you put over the greenhouse. What we did last year was use this, but put it inside, using the button fixings you'd use for bubble wrap.
This year, through inertia, we've left the bubblewrap in place, and hope that it will be as good. I have noticed the auto vent opens earlier in the day now though. Plants seem to be thriving, I must say. HTH, but comes with no guarantee, dealing with my SWMBO is enough, thanks, without falling foul of yours! Malcolm

Even with the perspex glazing I think you will need some shade netting. In my 8x6 glass greenhouse I have 2 double vents, 2 louvre vents and shade netting on the top and south facing side and it still gets to 32C. Without the shade netting the temperature rises to 46C or more.
I use this company for greenhouse supplies and can recommend them. http://www.twowests.co.uk/TwoWestsSi...ory/VENTIL.htm |
