When I spoke to him on the phone, ( he rang me) he gave a big speel about being an enthusiast and rarely broke cars , and preferred to save them ? so not quite the same tale!!

So.. got a few emails from a phone , no name ( only TJH ) no address, no tel number so all in all a nice safe deal !!

He does honour his word so long as you collect from him.

I bought a set of wheels off him and couldn't collect....and it was an age trying to arrange something.

When I got them...........VERY scuffed. To his defence.....he did not actually say what condition they were in........I assumed.....which was my fault.

He used to break a lot of rare cars......maybe still does as he has several leather seat sets for sale.

I would say that cash on collection is perfectly normal, its like the good old days where people would sell on the classified adds (in shop windows, newspapers etc), or a mate down the pub, selling at a carboot sale etc. Items can be inspected, they are sold as seen, cash changes hands, the end.

If a seller requests cash on collection, local pick-up, you are then free to inspect the item, item is then sold as seen.

By going to view and collect the item, you then have no rights under the distance selling regulations, due to you having seen and inspected the product that you are buying (private sale etc).

There are many stories where buyers pay by PayPal, then go collect the item, only days later open a 'Item not Received' case with PayPal.

I think the buyer now has the option to select 'Payment on collection' instead of checking out through PayPal, thats on collection only listings.

Hope that helps.

I have sold a set of 11 spoke wheels to John in the past and I still have his phone number. I don't have any problem with him but he can be a bit prickly. I would buy from him.

That's exactly how I've found it, just a little bit awkward!!
Hence the reason for my original post....

First Apologies to any Forum member who is just reading this thread for a bit info.. as this reply is not aimed at everyone.

But just to the one(s) who have found it necessary to contact this auction seller, and try to stir things up !.

Had a curt Email from him .. that implies some one has told him I am trying ruin his good character on this thread.

So many thanks for most probably killing this deal right off!!

Am now Ex P-Off.

As coincidence has it......... just had a call from him asking if I'm still after the bits I asked for ages ago, as he may be able to help.

Would I buy from him again ? Yes......... I think I would. But I would make sure I would collect the bits this time instead relying on trying to organise a relay !! LOL

I can't see anything that assassinates the sellers character in your posts. All you have done is to ask about him and his conditions of sale. You wondered if they were suspicious. A few have said, walk away and a few have said basically that he is a straight up guy, one said prickly. On the plus side, you have another offer on the table

The forum is a place where we learn much from each other: the good, the bad and the ugly. I recently had a bad experience on eBay, but this is your thread and is about you, not me. I hope you get it sorted.
