I have a feeling you will now kick yourself as it will probably work and everything will run quicker once the parasite called norton is gone.

are you 100% sure norton has gone? You need to remove Symatec Live Update as well, otherwise norton reinstalls itself as symatec can not believe anyone would actually want to remove their parasite of a programme on purpose!!!

Ahh, so it was gpedit

Damn I'm hot, and so young too

Have you shared the program files folder? Why would you want to access program files on the other PC?

Can you do \\PCname\C$ from the run prompt?

The plan is to copy everything (Lock stock and barrel) to the new PC, re format the old one then put back what's needed. Some of the programs on my old one will then be left on the new one.....

\\PCName\c$ only works on XP Pro, not on XP Home. (it's one of the things they cut out of Home).

However go to the PC you want to share the files from, right click on the c drive and I'm sure there should be a sharing option there.
