It's the cover fitted to the ball joint on the wishbone to prevent the ingress of dust - visible as the black covers on the base of the ball joint (see picture in my listing for the wishbone as an example) - Wishbone - Rover 75 / MG ZT - RH
The dust cover is the black cover you can see around the 'shaft' of the ball joint. You can replace the cover, but if it's started to wear due to ingress of dirt, you may need to change the arm itself.

Probably fitted upside down so the pilot could see out the front, rather than having to peer 'round a pair of cylinder heads. Alternative would have been the prop rather close to the ground.
Just guessing, Huw |

If you can't see any sign of lubricant it could be it never had any in the first place. I've come across a few modern balljoints that are built up dry.
Still just as important that the covers are in good condition as any contamination can lead to rapid wear. An improvement my old Triumph Vitesse (and Scimitar which used the same front suspension) where you rebuilt and lubricated the trunnions on a regular basis. |
