Exclamation Be aware, evolved scam

Be aware, the Microsoft scam has evolved!

For several years 'scammers' have contacted people by phone pretending to be either Microsoft or Windows security division and saying your computer is reporting a virus or similar problem.

From a phone call today this has evolved into a far more realistic ‘we are the security partner for your ISP including BT, Sky, Virgin Media, Talk-Talk etc, and your computer is reporting ….

Do not be taken in, do not follow any instructions given or accept any of their advice.

Edit: apparently been around a while though reported as a BT problem in Nov 2013, they no longer state a definite ISP but say they act for all of them as above

I had this, and kept them, on the line for about a hour, acting as thought I did not know anything about computers, (I never did anything, just said will go to the computer and turn it on, etc, etc, not that does not work), but did nothing, even though I have for about 16 years in IT, after an hour or so, told them they are talking ****, they are con artists and to(well politely put), go away

It was great wasting their time, thinking that they had me conned

I also kept them on-line for several minutes until he rang off, remembered now he represented the Broadband Security team for all ISP's and was based he said in Birmingham, he rang off when I asked him which ISP I had, he guessed BT then Sky and got fed up after I said really that isn't my bill says.

I've had the "the National Database says you have worked in a noisy environment which has damaged your hearing" one - I told them I couldn't hear what they were saying and put the 'phone down.
