90,000 Service
My 75 has just hit 90,000 miles and as I understand it it requires a service.
I've looked at the tick sheet to see what is required. Simple things like oil filter, brakes, etc, I can replace fit myself to save money. Is there anything that needs to be done in the end part of the service. For example, if I replace the oil and they take the engine apart for something like cambelts, would they need to drain the oil anyway? To save me doing tasks that will be done again, what can I do myself and what shouldn't I do myself?

At 90k you must replace the cam belts. It cost us just under £800 at our local (ex) Rover dealer this also included the inspection service. Enquiries at our village garage revealed they could not do the belts; too many special tools required.

Cambelts change doesn't require an oil drain. You should be able to get them done for around £400 to £500. Lates on here w2ill do them for under £400 and you know the job is done properly.

So is it worth getting a garage to carry out the full service inspection or just change the cambelt?
Does anybody know of a local (Poole & Bournemouth) 75 specialist. The only one I know of is Sewards and their prices are a bit steep. Other garages I've used have had trouble with it, taking far longer than required to repair (2 days to replace a gasket on thermostat housing and replace a tube).

It's a long drive from Poole to Coventry but you will find it is worth it. Members travel from all over the country to have there pride and joy looked after by Lates and his expert team. |

Worth changing the water pump at the same time while it's all in bits?

Mike some of the oil needs to be drained off as the dipstick tube needs to come out, but if no oil service has been specified it will be drained off into a clean container and refilled. We can arrange your cambelts for under £400 no problem, feel free to call my mobile if you need to have a chat. |
