Hi Phil, I had a W/M like that, regularly had to attach my foot pump to the pipe going up to the pressure switch and give it a good couple of pumps to clear the line, you can hear it pumping the ‘crud’ out at the bottom and then the machine worked fine!

Interesting the thread you point to talks about a leaky pipe, and you have a leaky pipe. This would cause the problem because the pressure in the pipe would leak away, and the switch would not operate.

I'd do what was done on the post, and fit a new pipe.

follow the pressure hose down from the pressure switch and you will find a chamber, it will be full of gunge, clean it out and you will be fine for a couple of years.

Bloke came out to see it. Says it needs a new level switch. He thinks there is a split in the diaphram.

Bloke returned, no switch, said that I was right the pipe was split, charged £20, washing machine is working splendidly again!

Apparantly it was the last model to be built in UK and he said it was worth holding on to as no other machines these days are anywhere near as good.
