Thanks Bill
Part number RSC000131 one kit per car required The items are not listed on the EPC. Any idea what they cost retail? I am going to buy replacement springs and fit a set of these anyway A Potential life saver if ever I saw one |

Sounds like it could have been very nasty Keith. I notice there is no mention of the ZT here. I take it this "fault" only applies to 75s?

Reading the bulletin......
Only Rover 75 Saloons between those chassis numbers affected. Repeated link http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...5&d=1203377275 So looks like ALL ZT Range unaffected. Keith looks like your car missed the recall (either DVLA or a Service manager communication problem with the previous owner.......or a previous owner who ignored the recall)

Luckily when my spring broke i was just parking and it did not damage the tyre, but had jammed against the tyre so the car could not be moved it had to be lifted on to the breakdown truck, i was very surprised the recall had not been done as i bought the car of mattl and he had spent hundreds on other mods, my spare set of tyre protectors are now on a members rover in Slovenia.

Rover 75 Safety Recall.
Copy of letter I received from MG Rover Group which detailed the fitting of spring retention component.
Important-Rover75 Safety Recall Dear Customer, DVLA records show that you are the owner of a Rover 75 Saloon (NOT Tourer), Vehicle Registration Number S 55STR, (KV51 BBO)*Vehicle Indentifiaction Number (VIN) SARRJSLPB2D227422. Ongoing assessment of customer feedback has identified a possible safety related issue on Rover 75 Saloons within a specified production range. Within this limited range, we have received a small number of reports of a road spring failure that could cause tyre sidewall damage. The damage could result in a deflated tyre that may reduce your control of the vehicle if it were in motion. Your Rover 75, details of which are confirmed above, is within this range of affected vehicles and must therefore have a precautionary spring retention component fitted. This will protect the tyre in the extreme event of a spring failure. Would you therefore please contact your local MG Rover authorised repairer to make arrangements for this necessary work to be carried out. Examination and modification will be carried out free of charge, and can ONLY be carried out by an MG Rover authorised repairer using genuine Rover parts. Your local MG Rover authorised repairer will be able to answer questions related to this matter. If you are unaware of the loction of your nearest authorised repairer, please refer to www.mg-rover.com or contact MG Rover on 08457 186186. MG Rover Group is taking this recall action in the interest of your safety and in accordance with the "Code of Practice on vehicle defects" which has been drawn up by the Vehicle and Operator Service Agency and the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders. If you no longer own this vehicle complete the form enclosed and send it back to us in the pre-paid envelope provided. MG Rover regrets any inconvenience this recall action may cause. Please understand that we take this action with your interests at heart. Thank you for your co-operation in this matter. Yours faithfully, Andy Kearns Customer Support Manager MG Rover Group. This letter is undated, but from memory it was received April/May 2004. My car was modified by the then MG Rover dealer in Greenock " Shields Rover Inverclyde" in May 2004 and it took them just under an hour to carryout the modification. Regards, Telfer. Hope this is of assistance. *Original Reg No. Rover 75 Club SE Arden Green. and this same No.was put back on the car again by the selling dealer Richard Cort (Oldham) Ltd., from whom I exchanged it for my White Gold Club SE Tourer. Sounds like it was a batch of inferior quality springs then!
I think it should be law for all car parts to be stamped with the makers ID just like on aircraft, especially critical components like suspension parts!
