Which printer?
Bonjour.
My wife wishes to buy a new printer for work. She wants a colour laserjet printer capable of printing on textured card. She doesn't want to pay the earth either. Any ideas, recommendations?

Yep, unless her work are paying for it don't get a laserjet!!! I had one and after the toner ran out it would have been cheaper to replace the whole machine then it was to replace the toner, even with refill kits!!! My new HP inkjet does equally as good prints as the laserjet did. I had a Xerox Phaser 6100 by the way - never again!!! And just as another point they are very big and heavy compared to an inkjet!!!

Tom I have just purchased a HP photosmart D7160 to be used in my showroom, was very impressed with it so bought one for use at home, I normally use epson, but when mine finally gave up I decided after seeing how good the hp printer was, to get one instead of another epson.
Not expensive Tom, around £80 + V.A.T. from Viking Direct or £104 including V.A.T. from pc world.

Thanks for the replies.
She is fully aware of the the cost of running a laserjet. The main reason she wants one (and yes she will be paying for it, she's self employed) is the speed. When she has to print out a hundred or so cards, waiting for one to pop out every minute, takes all day.

I would think then that she really needs to look at which lasers will do her weight of card/paper. The one I had was very particular over paper thickness and would jam easy if the paper was too thick. I was using it to print brochures on glossy 160gsm paper, which was the most it would take.

Colour lasers can be a different kettle of fish. The heavy duty ones are not cheap to buy and toners can be very expensive. They're probably less prone to ink problems though - all the Epson inkjets I've used have suffered from ink drying up and clogging the print heads. I have a Samsung CLP-500 colour laser which produces very nice quality print (really good with top notch paper) and is extremely quick once it's powered up and loaded your file into the buffer. I don't think it's made any more but there's one here for £245 http://www.shopgenie.co.uk/UK_fiche/...000098204.html Some info on Samsung range here: http://www.samsung.com/uk/business/b...lour/index.htm Prices here: http://www.shopgenie.co.uk/UK_hardwa...8_Samsung.html Last edited by Simon W; 7th March 2008 at 22:07.. |
