Sidetop & Seancar have extremely kindly donated a HK amp to me...

Leading me to some more questions...

Can the HK amp be used just to power the sub?

I've read the how to retrofit the HK guide, and I'm not sure I can be bothered faffing with wires going here there & everywhere.

Can I keep the door speakers powered from the HU and have the HK amp working just for the sub?

You can, but it is not that much effort to fit the system as intended....

An easy place to fit it would be where all of your speaker cables come together, behind the head unit. There is all the wires you need in that area, apart from the wire run to the subs. You just need to break into the speaker cables, so the HK is wired in series with all four channels, plus pick up the power supplies. Two wires in for each of the four channels, two wires out for each of the four channels + the four for the subs.

Two wires for each sub channel from the HK to the parcel shelf and the jobs done.

Rather than mount the HK directly at the back of the radio, I would mount it where it can get a bit of a cool airflow over it.

Fix a poor handbrake; DIY ABS diagnostic unit; Loan of the spanner needed to change the CDT belts; free OBD diagnostics +MAF; Correct Bosch MAF cheap; DVB-T install in an ex-hi-line system; DD install with a HK amp; FBH servicing.

I've taken a vow of poverty. To annoy me, send money.

That sounds a lot easier than I was imagining!

Thanks for the advice.

I guess I'll know more when the amp arrives and see what connectors etc that I'll need.

Any suggestions where to mount it, for space & air flow etc?

Thanks again.

I would guess near the fuse panel behind the glove box or maybe the other side of the car, above the bonnet release.

I used these http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item...d=301049566420. I needed to put new screw holes in as the pcd is slightly bigger but they fit and sound great
