It's either replace the knob or a DIY job. There's a "how to" here.

Oops, sorry mate just noticed you have a 75 and not a ZT.

don't they do just the plastic bit at the top? the lugs have broken on my one--seems a bit silly that you have to buy a complete new knob when all you need is the little insert at the top!

You can get the top insert only - it's not a Rover part as such, but I got one off Ebay which has imitation wood grain with silver lettering and a clear plastic top.

Have a look at http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-RO...item4d10ad3dd2

A bit pricey-but very nice looking.Surely you can get the complete gear knob for that!

You did a very nice job on that steve.A pity they aren't all like your type, they look much more robust.

Isn't my "how to" Roy, I just followed it. The ZT knob is more robust (I have a 75 as well!) but it has a clear rubber insert which over the years goes manky and invariably splits. Luckily it peels off without doing any damage to the lettering underneath. Only difference is rather than lacquer I did it with my wife's clear nail varnish, reckoned it would be better wearing, just don't tell her

Some 75 gear knobs are still available from Rimmers, have a look here.

I got mine last year for £7.99 including P&P - have a hunt around Ebay for a supplier called:
SMC Trading

I do like that ad, "...o no need for even removing the gear knob!!'

It only takes a sharp tug to remove the knob anyway (but it is a bit of skill). Plenty of original knobs available of car's being broken I'm sure and for less than £19.99. And yes for that money you can get a nice shiny new one either an original (albeit with the shiny metal top) http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-UKJ100570LNF or an aftermarket one.

Perhaps like this one http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...d.php?t=153743
