As said, the 'allowable' tolerance is 25-30mm between the two masses.
A DMF is like a wheel within a wheel so to speak.
If you put a mark straight across the inner & outer rings using tippex or similar, then turn the outer as far as you can while holding the inner still, the distance between your two marks should be no more than 30mm.
You usually have tell-tale signs when a DMF is failing:
Rattling noises from the bell-housing area.
Clutch judder.
Complete loss of drive.

Red face

Well... current situation means I can't be without car, so I've went ahead and got the DMF replaced along with the slave and clutch as the AA agreed to cover the first £500.
Now it's done I've noticed a much smoother ride (along with the obvious light clutch). When changing lower gears (1-2) there used to be a pronounced rebound (not a clunk as such) in the engine which I thought was the lower engine mount. I replaced that with a mondeo mount but still got the rebound. With the new clutch etc, the rebound has dissapeared - would this have been a symptom of excess dmf play?

BUT

Although the clutch is really light and gear changes are perfect, there is some roughness at the end of the pedal travel (when depressing) and I'm sure I can hear it too - as though I'm hearing/feeling the mechanics of the plate releasing. This only occurs when driving and changing to a new gear (might only be when changing up but need to confirm). I don't get the feeling when depressing the clutch either stationary of without changing gear.

Is this something I should worry about or is it the clutch bedding in?
