I've used 99 RON in my 190 for most of the time I've had it. Apparently it doesn't have any bio mixture like regular fuels. It certainly stinks enough on a cold start!

I personally don't think it's worth using super unleaded in a standard normally aspirated car. My Turbo charged Holden has been tuned to only run on super unleaded however to avoid 'pinking'. It has been proven that you will get a slight power increase with super unleaded by several magazines and, I think, 5th gear tv program but this was with turbocharged cars. As I remember it, I think the gains were negligible with a normally aspirated motor. I also think the mpg is not improved as claimed as I tend to like to use any power gains that I can get although higher octane fuels do burn more efficiently.

I normally used Tesco 99 but I don't use them any more for personal reasons so now it's Saintsbury's super or Shell if reasonably priced. One garage near me charges over £1.55 for it!

Unless your car has a knock sensor using higher octane fuel isnt going to do much for you. Even then many systems dont actual make use of it to generate more power or increase economy.

The fuel may however be better quality with more additives, but thats debatable.

I do agree to some length that its generally not really worth doing on a N/A car, but I do think that with these V6s it is. Mine certainly feels a lot more lively running 97/99. If I have to fill up with 95Ron it's as if my handbrake is binding or VIS motor has packed up.
I do think though, that to notice any difference in performance the car needs to be in tip top shape mechanically. For example, a dodgy VIS, exhaust leaks or misbehaving manifold certainly wont help matters.

I didnt do any performance upgrades on my 160 until i'd had full service, changed oil, spark plugs etc
