If I lock it in Fourth Gear and leave pedal plate on Floor,

drop it into drive and do the same there to achieve top speed or run out of Runway/Autobahn.
There is a rev limiter on the engine. On my 75 it was about 4800 rpm but bear in mind the tach is no more accurate than the speedo. (they generally over read as well!)

I did try last night to take it to higher revs in the lower gears, and up to around 4000 it pulls and pulls. Then it seems to run out of steam a bit, and honestly I didn't want to keep my foot down for fear of causing damage.

Anyone in the West Herts/Bucks/Beds area with a Ron'd cdt to compare?

(This is I know academic, as it's unuseable in the main, but it would be nice to know!)

Mine flys past 4K in any gear but as the power drops of at 4K there is not much point.

Mine is really free reving and nothing like the standard car at all.

As part of an emmisions test on an Mot it involves sitting the car on the limiter at least three times for about two seconds a time. (diesel only and when the engine is hot) in neutral, so if you think your motor won't rev up to the limiter, try that. As long as the engine is healthy, oil level is good it will be fine. It does it at your mot station at least once a year anyway.

Not anymore.

Most MOt testers use new equipment which just requires little more than a blipping of the throttle 3 times.
