![]() I don't know which engine you are talking about, but neither should be any big problem. Just adjust the tensioner to its fullest extent on the V6, basically so that it makes no difference when you take the pin (you know that you compress the spring and lock with a pin?) out of the spring load.
On the 4 cylinder there are settings given in Haynes, where the spring has to align before you lock it. I think maybe just relax and get a cup of tea. |

![]() Just tried again , no still cant get the hole in the tensioner to line up with the block, BTW its a 04 1.8T. Is it better to put the tensioner on first then the belt later???

Well mate your suggestion of a cup of tea has done the trick, however, light is failing and I'm cold (funny I thought I was able to do this at 59 as was when I was 29,learnt a lesson here me thinks?) An hour or two tomorrow morning and the job will be done. Thank you ![]() |

![]() They once gave me a wrong belt. And tensioner.
I think it was 143 teeth compared to 145. Think for the Freelander! Compare length of new and old belt! Yeah, another day tomorrow! ![]() |

![]() Have in mind that the MLS head gasket (if used here) is 0,3mm thicker than the elastomer gasket. So if the cylinder head is not skimmed, it may be harder to fit the timing belt tensioner. It should not be impossible anyway..
