Yes, I've had the car back for a month, but unfortunatly the car didn't pass it's MOT. I've ordered new rear springs and shocks, ABS sensor and some other small bits to get it through the MOT.
Car seems to run just fine, but haven't been used that much due to the MOT failure. |

Car is up and runnig again after having had the rear spsings and shocks replaced. It now rides much better.
Also replaced the coils, plugs, plug leads and air filter. Need to renew the rear ARB bushes and change the oil. After not using the car much for 6 months I have a new found excitment for the car |

And the excitement is gone again
http://www.the75andztclub.co.uk/foru...070#post957070 Could I argue that the failure of the Turbo is down to a poor repair from the first HGF? EDIT: Just ordered a recon unit from http://www.midlandturbo.com/ as suggested by SD1too in the other thread. Last edited by Sonus; 22nd March 2012 at 07:36.. |

Now my Land Rover garage has said that they will not change the turbo for me due to the risk of liability
How much hassle is it to change the turbo myself? Will I need to perform any difficult tasks or is it straight forward? I read somewhere that the fuel system needs to be disconnected? If so why? |

Well after having had the car sat idle from May I finally changed the Turbo. Not as difficult job as I had expected. The worn turbo had massive play in the bearings,, approx +/- 5mm of movement and had clearly worn down turbines where they had touched the turbo housing. It's a wonder that non of the turbine blades had broken off.
It had let massive amounts of oil into the system so I had to drive for over an hour to burn off all the oil in the exhaust system after changing the turbo. At first I though that I also had another HGF, but the smoke slowly diminished and when I parked late last night there was no "smoke" coming out of the tailpipe Now I'm contemplating fitting the uprated ECU from ZandT tuning that I bought over a year ago. Also how important is it to use vacuum to fill the cooling system? I managed to fill 6 liters of antifreeze into the system. I guess there was some left in the cooling system after draining it, so that should make it approx 6.2 liters as described in the workshop manual. Top hose is soft when running and when off All in all it was nice to drive the car again, it really is a nice handling car although it feels somewhat old compared to my 2009 BMW 325D Last edited by Sonus; 4th September 2012 at 06:52.. |
