Intermittent Check Engine Light
I was wondering if anyone can help. I have a 2004 ZT-T + 135 diesel as in the older model and I keep getting an intermittent “check engine” light come up on the drivers pack display. The warning light comes on then immediately disappears. There is no reduction in power, the engine is perfect. It is extremely annoying and in the future if I want to sell the car this would put potential purchasers off. I have taken it back to the main dealer who said they cant really do anything with it as there is no attributing fault and with being so intermittent difficult to diagnose and repair. They cancel the warning with their T4 computer but it does not cure the problem and comes back after ~12 miles. The only thing that comes up is slightly low fuel pump pressure but they say this should not cause this problem.
Has anyone else experienced this problem, and is there a solution or is there a way to disable the particular warning light? I noticed one of the members posted a similar question in Nov 06 but I could not see any answer. I would be so grateful for any advice. Regards Barrie H |

I'd have thought that if the dtc it is recording is low fuel pressure then that is surely your problem and needs rectifying. What milage is it on?

Welcome to Club.
The best thing would be to get it put on T4 to see what is causing it, at most XPart or MGR Service centres it would normally be logged. Try disconnecting Battery for 30 Minutes to reset Electrics. If you have Hi Line Sat Nav ensure you follow correct shut down procedures. The MIL light can be cleared using this piece of equipment to as you have found out. Several things can cause it, MAF being one, also check the Plenum Chambers to make sure no water there due to Drains Blocked. Plenty of threads on this, use Search facility above. You cannot/should not disable this light. The fuel Pump could technically cause this if a fault is being picked up by ECU. I'm sure someone will be along in Morning with more suggestions. Did they give you a Print out of error codes Found? |

If one or other of the low pressure pumps is not working properly, the pressure at the low pressure sensor (the one in the top of the fuel filter housing) may be a bit low. This will cause the warning light and a low fuel pressure fault code. It could be a sign that pump failure is imminent and then you will probably have starting problems and possibly cutting out under full load. If your car's mileage is about 100k, it could be the in-tank pump starting to fail. Ron

Intermittent Check Engine Light
Thank you all for your help and advice. The car has done 75000 miles. I agree if the T4 says fuel pump pressure low that is the cause but the main dealer said no, otherwise I would have had the garage replaced it/them. The warning light is on for such a brief moment you barely have chance to read it. The garage has not given me the fault code but I will ask. I will also try the disconnection of the battery - I like that one its very cheap and even I can handle it. I will report back on its success or otherwise. Cheers Barrie
