Default Wet Carpets - Do People take them to Dry?

I have a wet passenger footwell and rear carpets. I'm hoping the leak has stopped having unblocked the sunroof passenger drain. The top of the carpet is dry having been vacced but the back is soaking.

Advice really - do people take all the carpets out or leave them to dry over time and if the latter what are the pitfalls?

Take out, you will never dry the foam from the top, it is a pig to dry them when they are out anyway!!

Take it out as the chances are the air bag side impact sensor is sitting in water

I swear by this because it happened to me, a lot of people take them out but I didn't, I did take them up a little bit enough to stuff some towels underneath and kept standing on the carpet so the towels were soaking, got a wet vac and got as much water out that way, and with the carpets still very wet I switched the heating on full set to the feet setting, opened the front windows 1 inch and kept the car running on the drive for an hour every night for about 4 nights and after that they were bone dry, it could take a bit longer depending on how much water you manage to bail and squeeze out but the trick is to get all the standing water out, and you can usually do this by lifting the carpet up, I also took a seat out on one leak to get better access, but it's a hell of a lot easier than stripping the carpet out.

Take the car for a good run, the heat from the engine and silencer will heat the bodyshell up. After parking you could remove the cassette holder (under centre front armrest and leave the armrest in the open postion. If its sunny leave the sunroof open (physician heal thyself).

Pushed my Pella pump into the carpet ( the one I change the oil with) got the wife to hold the end while it sucked out the water with some continual pumping.
Opened the windows and doors, sun did the job, was all dry by late afternoon.

Wet/dry vaccum, move front seats as far back as possible, release the carpet edges and stuff old towels under carpets, open windows and let air circulate. whenever possible prop carpets up (tin cans or pieces of wood) to get air to the underside.
