Cheers. The pipes issue was a separate one to the wet carpet and judging by the replies I've nothing to worry about. I checked the side plenum yesterday but didn't realise there was the hole under the ECU, although that section looked dry from above. Hopefully that or a sunroof pipe has disconnected behind the glove box will be the answer, although the boot was very wet a few weeks ago when I bought the car. The guy did say the fault had been sealed when I bought it dry a few days later but I can't really tell what was sealed if anything. There's been no water in the boot since so I'm happy.

I'm hoping to get the ownership certificates back from the DVLA soon so I can get in touch with the last private owner to see what issues I should be aware of. All good fun though.
