I only want the best for my car, just like you…
There are not that many firms who are able to do a flush. My gearbox was flushed by a firm in Holland called ‘van Gansewinkel’ a gearbox repair specialist. A gearbox flush is more expensive than a normal oil change because there is new oil used to flush out the old oil so more oil (10,5 liters in my case) is used than with the standard oil change. In my case a full synthetic oil (Eurol ATF 1100) was used what is also some more expensive a liter than Texaco 402/403.
Costs were € 200,00 or GBP 175,00 mind you, servicing anything on your car is much more expensive in Holland than in the UK, only God knows why…

With all respect, there is no need for anybody to try and scare other members about the gearbox oil hoax that we see again and again on the forums. I think there is enough written about that matter so other members can search for it, read it, and make up their own minds and do what they think is best for the money they spend. If you have still any doubts about gearbox oil change or flushing or what oil to be used go to a gearbox specialist with a good reputation (preferably with Jatco repair experience), and let them advice you what to do, and what oil to use. It’s no rocket science, but a good specialist knows where he is talking about.

Rob.

They also service, repair and overhaul other brands of gearboxes, and are in that way able to compare, so in my opinion this explains why they call themselves Specialists. The later developed Jatco auto gearboxes are in some ways very different and better in design compared to the ones that have been fitted in our cars.

I am in the opinion that the minimum you can do is change your auto gearbox oil at least in the interval that Rover has in the Service sheets.
Better is to do a double oil change after a short interval, but there is still contamination of new oil by the old oil.
I have tried to do even better for my car by a real flush, by pushing the old oil out with new oil and reduce the contamination to a minimum.

Bottom line is, all members have to make up their own minds;
At what interval in miles or kilometres the gearbox of their beloved car is serviced.
What oil should be used at such a service.

Most important is that the auto gearbox IS serviced.

After my own research I have learned that the service for an auto gearbox is important enough to share it on the forum as an eye opener for those members who never gave it any thought.

I like what you are saying, and like the idea of a flushed gearbox rather than the short interval double change (after all thats technically still 25% old ATF in your gearbox).

Where abouts in Holland did you get the job done, I live on the Dutch-German border near Roermond.

Thanks for sharing, I am not ATF phobic either, it appears if you read all the threads available there are multiple conflicting specs of ATF being recommended, I know the Dutch love thier Rovers, so I am happy to listen to any opinion.

The car always comes first, my ego sits in the driving rather than the knowledge of fixing.

I Hi Simon,

My 75 was done 38.000km ago by Ganzeboom Rosmalen http://www.ganzeboom.net/
Just 12.000km more and I will go to them again for the next flush.

So every 50.000km an autobox flush for my 75.

Rosmalen is 94km from Roermond, so a good hour’s drive.

If you want to make pictures of the procedure, you will need 2 persons, one in the car for starting and stopping etc. And the other one can make the pictures.

Best regards,

Rob.
