IMHO it is probably caused by mechanics who are in a rush or not aware overtightening the handbrake adjuster screw, rather than adjusting at the rear wheel hubs. (The Rover part number has not changed at all over the different editions of the vehicle). And probably a fair dollop of how hard you pull on the handle - is your house/drive on a hill?

If your car is lucky enough to have had a competent and conscientious mechanic doing the work then you may have escaped this. But for the majority of 75's by now this is probably not the case.

By the way, this is all good news and everyone involved should be congratulated. Saved me a lot of head scratching and time. Having spent 2 hours adjusting to no avail a few weeks ago.
