Default Help Please

We have just bought a rover 75 diesel auto tourer. Great car, great drive very happy!! All of a sudden she developed starting problems, sometime starts on first pull, sometimes though she struggles and sometimes starts and then dies. Getting through diesel like nobodys' business, in at the garage at the mo. changed one fuel pump still suffering starting problems (from cold or warm makes no difference). Garage is stumped and suggest changing another fuel pump!! Also told I had a problem with my 'air math meter' ?? Does anyone know what this does?! It has been changed twice and still registers a fault on the diagnostic computer. Am told it is not within range all the time.
Can anyone help with any ideas??
Thank you
Ape 195

P.S. She is a 2001 model,
