Default DIY diesel engine tray insulation

I read that someone suggested using a camping mat.
Without spending about £25 on heat resistant closed cell sound insulation.
Has anyone successfully found a cheap alternative to replace the sound proofing?
Mine is all washed off and the tray is off ready to refit. I would like to replace the insulation with something to reduce road noise but am scratching my head as what to use.
Must it really be heat proofed I don’t have a clear image of where it would get hot the sump area has the crimpled aluminium plate and the front near the rad is left bare anyway.
If anyone has done a DIY solution I would be interested to hear it.
