Diesel turbo elbow downpipe studs
Do they just knock out or are they welded in?

For your info the end that attaches to the TURBO Has holes that goes over studs on the Turbo and the exhaust end has studs for the exhaust to attach to. HTH.

I dunno, I was generalising about studs with no particular location in mind. Madmatt asked if they are welded in. All studs are held in location by threads, typically in a blind hole (eg. for the exhaust manifold), but sometimes in a through hole, so you can see the end of the stud on the rear face of a pipe flange for example. Some studs have two thread sections with a gap between to limit the insertion. Other types can have a different thread type at each end according to the metallergy of the parts being held. TC |

The studs in our exhaust pipes knock out, they have a splined section below the flat head.
Get it nice and hot and drift it out using a punch.
