Diesel Injector Cleaner - Is it that good?
Hi all,
I gave my beloved a full servie at the weekend, the Rover that is, and bought some injector cleaner from Halfrauds, put it in and a few miles later noticed a good performance improvement. Question is, does this stuff really work that well so quickly or is there an octane type additive which is to make us unsuspecting owners think the injector cleaner product is brilliant? Wonder if any one else has tried this or am I just an old cynic. Cheers, Roy

Some of these things can work that quickly as a cleaning agent, when needing a quick clean for such as an MOT. There are other products that give a boost and other benefits for example Miller Diesel Plus. I use this on every fillup as do quite a few members It Clean, lubricates, improves MPG and boosts power.
Give it a try Kev

I've run diesels for hundreds of thousands of miles and recommend the regular use of injector cleaner and advocate giving the car an occasional good hard run to prevent deposits building up in the combustion chamber and clearing the muck out of the fuel system. If most of your journeys are short ones or urban cycle with stop start driving I think it's essential.
I have never replaced or had problems with injectors or the fuel systems of any of the cars I've owned. On last MOT my car was fast passed on the first blip of the throttle because the emmissions were so clean. Does injector cleaner work IMHO yes, ok it costs you a bit but having a cleaner fuel system and combustion chamber will improve mpg and that will in turn more than pay for itself, especially with the rising cost of fuel. Try your local Tesco Extra....they do Redex diesel for abot £3.80 which is enough for 60 litres of fuel.
I use it on about every third tank.

To be honest i've never needed scientific proof, personal experience is all the proof I need. My car has 104'000 mls, puts out very little smoke even under extreme load, fast passed it's mot same as Bigruss, returns 45+ mpg on a run and the engine is as quiet as any 10'000k B**.

Thanks folks, looks like I should use a fuel cleaner regularly, the Tescos Redex at £3.80 is a good cost effective option so will try that.

Whilst I can't recommend it for obvious reasons, I have found auto transmission fluid to be an excellent injector cleaner if you've got some knocking around in your garage.
