Alternatives to OEM Towing Mirrors?
As the prices on ebay for OEM towing miirors have gone a bit bonkers (laws of supply & demand I guess), I was wondering if anyone has had any success with any of the aftermarket alternatives, as I need a set pronto for when we collect our first caravan next weekend.
I know some experienced people get by without them but as this is my first time towing I would rather be safe than sorry. My car is a MK1 with bullet mirrors if it helps Cheers Rich |

I also have a pair which are intended to fit around the rim of a rectangular mirror head. They just hook onto the rear facing lip of the mirror head, with a couple of adjustable straps to keep the hooks pulled in tight. They sort of fitted as they came, but the plastic arm with the hooks on (two top, two bottom), is quite narrow so I thought I would try bending them to better fit the curve of the 75's mirror head, that resulted in the hooks fitting much better. I bent the arms by heating them with a hot air gun.

As said, they sort of fit out of the box, but better with the edge adjusted with heat, to have the hooks fit more securely.

I use the mirrors that suck to the door mirror glass, yes they vibrate a bit. I put some rubber beading like door edge or sharp edge protection beading on the top edge of the mirror glass which helped a bit. The problem is the door mirror glass wobbles with the weight of the suck on mirror, used these mirrors on my Volvo S40 and were absolutely fine so fault is with Rover mirrors.
Although they also reduce visibility of the car door mirrors I find they are adequate enough for me. Hope this helps a bit, but it's just my opinion. Martyn |

Thanks, these are on my watch list. Another pair sold on ebay earlier today for £60, but given that this pair have been messed about with may mean they sell for a sensible price. Judging by the photos it looks like extra bits have been glued on. In the meantime thanks for all the suggestions, I will see if I can pick up a second hand pair of the aforementioned Milenco Aeros locally before we go. If not then it will be what ever type I can find + some tape |
