Default Intake mod

I have been looking through all the mods done here but cant decide on which would be the best mod to the air intake for my as yet standard CDT.
I had thought about removing the flexi part with the aid of mr stanley and one of his wonderful if not dangerous knives.
What have you guys tried and tested to be the best?

If using the Synergy Box (or similar) the best Air Intake Mod IMHO is the MK2
shown below:

I tend to agree with John on this one.

However, it might be an idea to get another intake trunking assembly and use it to experiment, going through various stages of modification with the ability to always do an instant back to back comparison with the original spec.

I agree with both the above, but to get the best out of the Mk 2 mod as in JDC's picture, I made sure I removed all the obstructions from under the slam panel, including the splash guard (mine's a pre-facelift 75). I did put 3 dummy bolts in place, though, as John seems to have done, so it doesn't look like something's missing, which would be a dead give-away.

Default Intake mod

I'm interested in the air intake mod, I can't see what this would benefit? Surely the whole point of the scoop is to act as the ram effect, whilst driving forward the air is scooped and forced through into the airfilter to help the turbo, I read this with interest as my cdt has been remapped and I'm considering one of Rons Synergy boxes

once you take the air duct off you will see, the opening seems very restricted.
By cutting off as in the picture you will still get the same air flow from the grill aimed at the inlet but it can also take extra air in.

I am playing with intake mods at the moment. I bought revotec 76mm cold air feed and placed it as close to the radiator as possible. The rule is that the colder air the better. While idling, the whole duct gets quite warm, however after even a short run at 30mph, the whole thing gets cold.
Now I'm thinking of checking the clearance between the grille and fan as it'd be an ideal place to put air inlet. The problem is that you are only left with about 2cm of clearance, however you can always flatten the duct a bit.
Another thing is to stuck a flat shaped 200x40mm intake changing into a pipe to the place left from removing original duct.
And if you'd like to keep the stock duct, you can always remove those 3 screws, push it towards the engine and slide it back, but under this metal place that covers it. You get area of 40 square centimetres which is pretty good as even 76mm diameter duct gives you intake area of 45 square centimetres and is much more difficult to place.
Will post pictures when after the final mod has been finished.
