Default horrible sound clip

hi on my 2.5 v6 manual y reg 60k zt im getting a rattling funny noise. it doesnt seem as thou its comming from the plenums (what the vis motors connect to) it seems near the alternator belt side of the engine. perhasp somethings loose like a cog or something. but its deffinatly comming from around inside the driver side wheel arch, alternator, belts side or whatever else is around there. perhasp pumps acc or water i dont know but its very embarasing. i have taken the recording by placing the phone on drivers front wheel with engine idling at normal temperature . any help would be greatly appreciated

Sounds very ominously like a VIS or manifold related rattle I have to say. Has your car always sounded like this - if not and it is a recent development did you/are you experiencing poorer performance or economy?

Using the stethoscope you can certainly eliminate or include areas of the engine bay. To rule out VIS or manifold place the 'scope on the manifold area towards the rear of the engine bay. It could be a noisy pulley or drive belt in which case you'll hear it more prominently from the left-hand side of the engine. Worth checking all obvious things such as pipe work and all nuts/bolts aren't rattling too.
