Default 11-11-11 is tomorrow (now today)

As a child I was bought up to not only honour the world's war dead on Remembrance Sunday but also on the actual date.
My father worked in a factory with a punitive attitude to those who failed to deliver except on one day and time, 11-11-11, when all workers were allowed to stop work for two minutes without loss of pay.
I fortunately joined a family owned business with the same attitude.

Sunday trading has allowed employers to deny employees the right to observe Remembrance Sunday as well as ignore the true date/time of 11-11-11.

Surely two minutes lost productivity per annum is, in the scheme of things, not too high a price to pay.

Much as I agree with Remembrance Day, 11/11/11 means nothing to me.
11th November 1911, no, 11th November 2011, no.
Eleven minutes past 11..............
What is 11/11/11?
Mick

Thank you for clearing that up.
Was getting worried that too many brain cells had gone.

Sunday trading is the pits, however, I worked for many years in supermarkets, and every remembrance Sunday, the tills, and all the staff stopped working, and announcement was made inviting all customer to join us in a moments silence.

I believe most supermarkets still do the same thing today.

If you find one which doesn't, I would suggest a letter to the head office will soon sort it out.

We owe them respect. It is only right that we remember them and 2 minutes is not a lot to ask.
I have always observed this........wherever and whatever situation Im in.
Yes.......sometimes it has caused problems at work.........but nothing that came to anything.
An I will be doing it tomorrow too............And Ive told my kids to do it at school also.
And yes..........Im anticipating calls from schools about it LOL

I too honour those who gave for us, on Rememberance Sunday, and on Armistice Day.
I was at the Thorpe Park theme park on Sunday, and had chosen the place for my moment, but all rides stopped and announcements made to join in Rememberance, and it was very very quiet. Well done Thorpe Park, and those who joined in.
Tomorrow, Tuesday, I will be at work, and I will pay my respects again.

I think you will find that by far the majority of schools will observe the two minutes silence. I have never worked in a school that does not.
In fact if they don't I would be moving my kids!

Despite what we may presume the vast majority of primary age children are keen to learn about this as part of topic work and are more than keen to take the poppy box round the school. (only difference now is you cannot trust them with pins. ..stick on or plastic only )
We should give children and schools credit when deserved. If you do get a call from the school remind them that without those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice they would not be teaching the way they are.
I hope your kids are joined by the rest tomorrow. I will be at assembly with the whole school both kids and staff. No exceptions.
Lest we forget....
My son serves with the RAF as did my old man in the cold war days and my grandfather during all of WW2. My other grandfather served through all of the war with the Seaforth Highlanders. Including a miraculous escape ( even by Dunkirk standards) at Dunkirk. What bravery and good fortune.
My son is on Parade tomorrow at Coningsby. Wish I could be with him but us teachers up here not allowed off even without pay during term time.
I applaud your conviction to make sure your kids remember as we do.

Chris
