![]() 2001 2 litre V6
Only had it a couple of days and one of the first things I want to do is change the oil. There is some sludge in the oil filler hole. What are V6 owners thoughts on flushing? I have heard that flushing can remove deposits which are actually sealing leaks and compensating for internal wear. |

![]() I'd say the broad view is against using a flush. Today's oils don't need them and a small amount is always left in the engine. Better old oil left than a solvent/detergent system not designed to run engines.

![]() Hi,
Yes I agree with T-Cut. If you want to be sure your engine is nice and clean, have a second oil and filter change again at about 4/5000 miles or so, before resuming the normal service intervals recommended by Rover. Regards, Telfer. |

![]() I "third" the above from personal experience. As posted last month, I used flush then Millers Semi XSS on the R75 (02, 80K) and I reckon it's running a tad rougher now. However using flush and same oil on the ZTT (04, 50K) made no difference.

![]() I think it is all a personal preferance with whoever is changing the oil. Personally if I was doing it I would not, but as you say doing a home oil change between services would not harm in any way.
Here's a question then, 'How is it that new cars are now able to go twelve months or 24000 miles before their FIRST oil change' surely the oil is no differant to what you get over the counter [fully/semi sinthetic] and of course a dealer would probibly not add any additives either or flush out on oil changes! ![]() |

![]() I too support the above negatives.THe flushing oil would be left in the oil cooler ! You would need to remove it to clear .
