Default widescreen headunit upgrade

I've bought a bmw 16:9 widescreen headunit to upgrade my hiline system. I've read its not a straight replacement, as there are bracket problems.

I assume it is plug compatible - just a white and a blue plug to refit isn't it?

As for the brackets, does anyone have any details about what is involved, and how best to achieve it? Also pictures would be great if there are any available?

Tony you'll need to trim the plastic ear's off and modify the ends of the top metal fixing bracket to fit.

Give me a minute and I'll sort out some before and after pictures.

Other than that it's plug and play.

Pictures......

The unit will look like this, note the plastic ears and metal bracket....

You'll need to remove the plastic "ears" from each side

And also alter the each end of the metal top bracket like this

To enable the unit to fit.

Modded unit prior to fitting

Unit in car prior to securing, I found it easier to locate the bottom of the unit correctly by removing the air con cover panel

Hope that helps.

I use a knife blade to carefully prize off the securing clips (I think there are additional clips in the centre, not just the corners).
The knife blade also helps release the lower spring clips on the HU. I actually managed to persuade my one out before I realised there was screw behind the control knob.
