Default MP3 CD Changer?

My '02 Tourer has the standard CD changer in the glove box. Sadly, they hadn't caught on to MP3s in those days and, on a long journey, 6 regular CDs are simply not enough! Has anyone found an MP3-compatible changer at a reasonable price that will replace the old unit?

Hmm no one know? Shame coz I would like to know as well!

If I put some wave file music on a DVD, say, 50 tracks, would that play in my cd changer unit ?
.

There are two solutions that I found.

http://www.addacdchanger.co.uk/MP3_P..._3_-_Alpine%29

This one sells a kit to make an MP3 changer work with your head unit, and the second option which I finally opted for was a GROM Audio, USB interface plus an 8Gb memory stick

http://www.gromaudio.com/aux1.html

Not fitted it yet, but its due to be delivered on Tuesday so will let you know how I get on. I chose this one because it wil free up my glove box from the huge factory fit changer that currently sits in there.

Looks good, nice to get a bit of space back in the glovebox

I fited a Sony MP3 changer in the spare wheel well using a Connects2 interface to the OEM kit so that it works with the steering wheel controls. It cost £150 IIRC

I bought the Grom intrface for an Ipod a couple of weeks back. Wouldn't work with my Symphony.

The guys I bought it from were good enough to change it for the MK 2 version (which should have cost an extra £20). Fitted that yesterday - stll won't work.

The Ipod "sees" the Grom interface and charges ok, but the Symphony won't recognise the Grom unit, and simply switches between radio & tape when you press the "tape/CD" button.

Grateful for any ideas (if there are any) before I go for a refund tomorrow.

Cliff

Hi Cliff, I went for the mem stick ver as I don't have an ipod, unit came with mini iso plug ( blue one) As I have the hiline setup this was no good to me as rhe plug to my CD player is the black 2x5pin. After a few emails I managed to get them to send me the pin outs on the interface they use on the grom. Then it was heart in mouth time, I cut the plug off the cd changer, cut plug off Grom unit and discarded. Then wired up the corresponding pin numbers: Pos, neg, Kbus and 4 speaker wires.

Works fine now, created 6 folders on mem stick and can load up to 99 tracks in each folder ( memstick size permitting)

Edit: may be worth checking 12v+, 12v- and kbus are wired correctly
