Default West Midlands Convoy enroute to Haynes?

I have lost track of who is going from my neck of the Woods

Jamie (biker in a suit) a few weeks ago suggested meeting up on route probably around the end of the M54 and then picking people up along the M5 etc on the way

Strictly within speed limits etc

John (Salop75) and I did the same going to Eden last year which was sort of fun even though I spat a Squirrel out at him on the way (alledgedly)

any takers?

PM me (or Jamie), if I don't reply to this thread, work has gone bonkers so I am not on the forum much at the moment.

I Suppose we ought to bounce a few facts and figures together if this is to work

Meet starts at 10:30
Distance from my place is 180 miles
if I leave at 07:00 I will be joining the M6/M5 around 08:15 to 08:30
so in theory that means we should be navigating around Bristol around 10:00 aiming to get to the meet at 11:00

So that gives people an idea of when and where I expect to be, we can obviously adjust to meet/catch up with people as necessary.

I don't use the M5 much are there any sensible meeting places or services at the top end and then further along the M5? ditto the A37?

I notice from Autoroute the route is M5 > M4 > M32 > A37 taking in a fair bit of central Bristol ring roads, can anyone local advise on traffic?

I don't know the area, but as I'm travelling from Leicester, it would be great to meet up somewhere en route. Also I can then just follow someone else and not have to navigate.

Your most direct route looks like M1 > A43 > M40 > A34 > A303 but you are of course welcome if you fancy coming down the M69 and then going the M42 route to the M5 this distance is strangely almost identical!

Or you could start an anyone coming down the M1 thread

Strensham Services, Southbound between J7 and J8 of the M5?
Would that be a suitable first meet and comfort break point?

I've just been having a look at the route. Now, excuse any ignorance on my behalf as I don't know the area nor have I travelled there in a long time, but from what I can gather...
Would it be sensible, to stay on the M5, going through Bristol and maybe leaving the M5 further down south, say Junction 23 joining A38 and then turning left onto A372 (heading East) until it joins the A303 (still heading East) until we reach Sparkford, then it's a short stretch up the A359 to the museum.

Would staying on the M5 avoid much of the problems in and around Bristol or is the M5 affected heavily too (even on a Sunday morning)...?

More stops can be worked in if needed, at the moment though, this first stop was so everyone from North of Strensham could join together as some of us are spread far and wide.

If there is enough interest we can add another stop further down south. The route I proposed above is just my idea to avoid Bristol which a few members have said is a nightmare regarding traffic.

Me and everyone else are entirely open to suggestions/route changes and the like.
