I have just had a DD Sony Radio purchased for me, I to have a little difficulty in radio reception, however I bought one of these to fit

With reference to the reasons for the problem which I described in post no. 5, the solution is to fit a 3 FM element diversity rear screen (CQB 102011 or 000220 depending upon VIN) and the matching 'amplifier' (XUC 100751) which can switch between the elements as required. Unfortunately I doubt that the screens are still available but you might be able to extract one from a scrapped early car of the correct spec.
Fitting a different radio which does not use the diversity system would be another impractical solution.
I'm afraid that the OP, and others which share this problem, are stuck up that famous creek without means of propulsion.

Replacing it with the same non-diversity type Dave (XUC 100741) is pointless, even if it is faulty, for the reasons explained above.

Also check the aerial filter [located on the offside D pilar [blue arrow]]

If the OP was experiencing interference when the HRW is used I would agree, but he says reception is poor which points to the diversity system.
