Default Newbie Advice Pleeeaasse

Hi yep another rover 75 newbie here, only had her a couple of weeks now getting down to the service jobs..

I'm pretty well up on the mechanics side of things but where does the pollen filter reside ?? is it safe to assume that it is under the scuttle panel below the windscreen or am i totally wrong..

Also is there a special knack to getting at the oil filter......haven't got a socket big enough Grrrr or will i have to buy one..

Just got my new O rings for the intercooler as well thanks Jules

many thanks dave

Hi Dave, you need to check the lower plenums as a matter of urgency, the drains on this can block and drown the ECU, do a search on lower plenum drains or go to the how to PDF's and there are instructions there, one of the plenum drains is below the pollen filter which as you guessed is on the passenger side at the base of the windscreen

Welcome to the club

The pollen filter lives in the passenger side plenham box face to face with the ECU. best to clean the water escape tubes while you are in there, and clean out any debris you may find..

Dunno about the oil filter, my tame mechanic services my car for me. I think you get at it from under the car. .

Arghh! Dave beat me to it! *I must learn to type faster* ..

Think the oil filter is 36mm

NOTE: WHEN CHANGING THE OIL FILTER ON A DIESEL, COVER THE ALTERNATOR WITH A RAG.

Otherwise oil can find its way into the alternator and it fails shortly after, seemingly it is a pain of a job to replace and quite expensive

Hi there, you want one of these here
Don't forget to cover your alternator, as Dave says. Could be costly if you don't
You change the filter from under the bonnet, which is a doddle really

You mentioned that you have your replacement O-Rings and although the front end removal is not that difficult its not something you want to do again if you dont have to so while you are in there you should consider replacing the Fan resistor and definitley clean the windscreen washer motor filter

Remember you are using a very large socket to get the oil filter housing off and on so it's very tempting to give it some beef when you refit and tighten it. The Haynes book gives you the torque setting for the filter cap. Don't overdo it. I'm not at home at the moment so can't get to my book. If you don't have the setting I'm sure somebody will let you know.
