Fan activation gremlins

Replaced a non-original noisy fan for an owner yesterday, checked the operation of the scrapyard fan by using the relays in the control box, both low & high speeds (1.8T) worked. Checked the low speed activation by taking the car up to 100 degs, the fan didn’t start, tried the trinary, demist and auto test - no response, but after a main battery reset the fan engaged once the demist was pressed but not auto. To get the AC working the owner must press the demist first and then auto then the AC works. Great some progress, not much but enough to get the owner home.

My T4 reported a communication error (and then the laptop died), switched to Toaf “access violation” - wouldn’t go any further.

Ideas most welcome
