Default Chaffed pipe at front of engine bay.

Hiya, was wondering if anyone could let me know the part number and purpose of the highlighted pipe. Its become quite badly chaffed by the jubiliee clip and I want to replace it asap. Have rewrapped it with electrical tape to protect it, but only a matter of time before it goes bang I'd say!

That's the hose where the fuel burning heater goes. There should be a plastic coupling pipe in the middle.

Get a couple of clamps either side so you don't loose too much coolant and cut it back, and rejoin with the coupler.

Hiya

The damage is in the area marked with a red X.

I'd say replacing the pipe, is the only option with the damage here? Or have I misunderstood your reply

Where you're yellow line starts and finishes should be on joints. There should be enough slack to thake the middle pipe out altogether.

Hope that makes sense now....

Makes sense to me now!

My only concern with this is that it eliminates that 'valve' looking thingy at the top of the pipe. Will this affect anything?

thanks

There is a small bleed valve, but I've never used it (that I can recall). I'm sure others will arrive to chip in shortly.

Mines going there as well was rubbing on a clip attached to the bracket, will either us the coupling and a couple of clips or try and find a piece of pipe (copper?) and redo the join

Would a small section of standard (guestimate 3/4") copper pipe and 2 jubilee clips be sufficient to fix this?

What a weird convulated arrangement - why ever was it designed like that in the first place I wonder?

Thats exactly what my trusty and competent mechanic said! He simply couldnt understand why its done the way it is.

He was adamant that its not like that on Land Rovers or BMWs with the TD4 engine.....
