Default A little preventative maintenance today

Changed the starter motor contacts and plunger today, no reason really, just thought it better done before the car lets me down. No need to look in there again........hopefully.
It was doing Ravinder's tourer a few weeks back that made me think to do mine before it starts misbehaving
Looking at the contacts that came out, it was a worthwhile job

Hi Ian.
Paul may have bought the kit from here in the link below ? but have a good read, I would say every car 65,000 and over would benefit from maintaining their starter in this way.

I covered this back in 2015 not an hard job an hour maybe the most.

Is it just an hour for the V6 starter?

Steve is right, these are the parts I bought........good seller with quick delivery
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MG-ZT-2-0...72.m2749.l2649
Took around 10 mins to fit the parts in the starter, it's getting the starter off that took the time About 1 1/2 hours all in, including two mugs of tea

I used your excellent 'how to' Steve
Just for the record, my car has just hit 120,000 miles so, assuming that no work has been done previous to my ownership of six years, these contacts have done that mileage.

Hi Stan.
I would say yes about the same time, it maybe a little less as the starter is not in such an awkward place as the diesel starter.

V6 air box off and out of the way and it will reveal the starter just under the coolant pipes, not done one yet but I am going to do my MGZT 190 one as soon as the weather picks up so lookout for the how to

Good work, Paul. Mine still starts fine.
Just everything else that keeps falling off it, now...

Might be worthwhile Bob although, the 'don't fix it 'til it's broke' approach has a lot going for it too
Sometimes, just sometimes, things are best left alone.
