How heavy is the transmission of a CDT?
How heavy is the transmission/gearbox of a CDT?
I want to know if the joists across my garage can take the weight without additional support. Thanks macafee2 |

Years ago when I used to mend things, I used to get two same size or larger, pieces of wood and bolt them to the beams I was going to lift on.

Don't think they are very heavy - I'd hazard a guess at 30kg empty thinking back to the last time I did a clutch.

When my parents had their garage built they specified one of the roof beams to be an RSJ in lieu of the normal wooden beam.
Lifted many a straight 6 all iron Triumph lump plus overdrive gearbox on that.... |

That sounds about right. Not too heavy to lift but way too heavy to juggle with whilst trying to line up. Had to use engine crane.

30kg, beams should take that as they 6 inch high, 1 7/8 inch wide.

It’s not so much the size of the beams, it’s how you fix a pulley onto the beams.
A 75 transmission unit shouldn’t present too many problems as you can practically lift it manually. I’ve had loads of experience carrying the cases when going on holiday |

As you are probably two to three times the weight of the gearbox try pulling yourself up on one. That will give you a good idea of what they can take.---
