Turbo. Can i get away with it?
1.8 T. Not sure how a turbo works. I am not a boy racer and I dont realy need it. The problem I am getting is, if I accelerate quickly the engine seems to miss fire like being starved of fuel in the old carbruetter day's . If I drive cloth cap and slipper style, she runs like a dream.
My question: If the turbo is on the way out and it fails comletely. Can I ignore the problem, and continue to drive normaly without the fear of a roadside breakdown? |

Lets assume it is the turbo for a minute..(not saying it is)..
If a turbo fails you can get severe oil burning because the engine vacuum will draw oil past the turbo seals, it can also leak directly into the exhaust. The engine will be VERY down on power and if it REALLY fails, in other words explodes, the bits can end up in the cylinders, in effect destroying the engine.. It happens rather often, but not seen anyone on here with that issue yet.

I would check your breathing pipes and induction, vacuum .
Also check plugs .7mm although some say .5mm and your coil pack. With any problem solving try the easy and cheap stuff first. I would have thought that turbo going/ gone would result in oil in your exhaust smoke, bad mpg lumpy high revs . Again checking your plugs would also let you know if oil is getting through . Hth let us know the outcome honey. |

Hi thank you all for the information provided so far. From what has been said I do not think the turbo is my problem, as there is no lose of power or smoke and the MPG is good. 34mpg. So it will have to be tools out.
PS. Is there a gasket under the cover to get to the plugs coils etc? |
