The RAF at 100
Tonight @ 8.30, BBC1, celebrating the RAF's centenary with Ewan McGregor & his brother, Colin, should be good.
Also, for Deep Purple fans on Sly Arts(if you have it) in concert with orchestra, live in Montreux 2011, 8.00pm |

Pretty good
Pretty good programme all things considered. Amazing hearing from the veterns both male and female who flew or flew in the aircraft during wars from WW1 to the Falklands war. Some extrordinary bravery shown by all.
Must admit I would love to get up in a Spitfire or of course a Typhoon! That acceleration on Performance take offs....down runway ...then vertical... A Spitfire flight...now that would be my ultimate. Very expensive alas so unlikely to be able to afford one..Never say never though... Looking forward to RIAT 2018 and the days flying on the Friday including the anniversary flypast. Can't wait! Chris |

It was OK I suppose, although I would have preferred it if there'd been more coverage given to the RAF's history and less to the brothers gearing themselves up for a trip in a Typhoon.
What I do find irritating, particularly as I'm ex RAF, is that none of the main channels (or the others come to that) are broadcasting any type of 100th anniversary commemoration on the actual day - which is Sunday, April 1st. Like Chris, I'll be at Fairford for RIAT 2018 and I'm sure it will be a spectacular celebration - assuming it doesn't chuck it down with rain like it did last year.

In my air cadet days did many hours in ye olde Chipmunk but the highlight or highlights were at the summer camp at RAF Kinloss in the '70s. Did an eleven hour patrol flight in a Nimrod and was one of the few "lucky" enough to be selected to up in a Shackleton out of Lossiemouth. Nine hour flight, that seriously was something else, bang up to date WW2 technology, the thing stank of leather, hydraulic fluid and rubber. |

I was up in gliders a couple of times, wasn't mad keen on them, think I preferred seeing what was keeping me in the air!

In the Air Cadets I was lucky to fly Chipmunks out of Cambridge, gliders out of Henlow and Varsity out of Stradishall. Great experiences. Love gliding .

I watched it and quite enjoyed it, I liked the bit about WW1 and the display team that had that era aircraft.
