Default Probably a stoopid question...

...but I'll ask it anyway.

I have an older redundant PC which runs on Windows 2000. Is it possible to fit an additional hard drive and load Windows XP on the drive, leaving Windows 2000 on the original?

I hate answering a question with a question, but why would you want to do that? Is there something you have in mind for the machine?

The answer is yes... you can do. You'd have to create a dual boot manager thought - dead easy

I may be going about things in a strange way (?)

What I want to do is build a new hard drive with Windows XP and all the drivers and software I need so that eventually I can use it to replace the hard drive in the PC I am actually using now.....

Sorry to put a spanner in the works TF but if you are intending to build a new Windows installation for your current PC then you need to do it in your current PC. Any software/drivers you install will be tuned to the PC the harddrive is installed in so it would be very counter-productive to install it in a different machine to the one you intend to use it in.

My advice would be to install it in your current machine and either use it as a second harddrive to increase your storage space or do as you intend and install Windows on it to create a new fresh install to replace the harddrive you are currently using.

PS: A dual-boot manager is a piece of software that allows you to have to have operating systems installed on one system but will give you the option when you start the PC of selecting which installation you wish to use.
