retrofit OE PDC

I bought my PDC and sensors a while ago from SMC, but only just got around to wiring up.

So far only on the bench, but had some odd results. So over to those with experience to suggest what it might be.

I've got power and ground wired up, but K bus is missing.

All sensors connected.

When I put 12v on the reverse light wire I get a double beep one low tone then one high. Then just a series of beeps as though it were working OK. However the beeps never change if you put anything near the sensors.

If I unplug one sensor, I still get the double beep, but two high ones. Then again contstant beeping.

Also, the system doesn't switch offwhen the reverse light wire goes low.

I guess it might be having no K bus, but does anyone recognise my rather poor descriptions of the beeps?

If not it'll have to wait until I get the thing on the car, and maybe testbook it.

Then I'll be back asking for measurements for fitting the sensors.

I think it has to be testbook enabled.

If you find Keiths "testbook thread" I think it shows it as one of the screen dumps

OK, I said I'd be back.

Connected the PDC back up on the kitchen worktop, and now it's working fine. I used a different speaker, and now it works fine. I did get some comments about being barking, for setting it up in the kitchen as a worktop approach warning, but when I asked where I should test it before drilling holes in the bumper, reality was restored.

So, I need some help! Could someone who has OE PDC on their pre facelift 75 do me a favour and take some measurements of where the sensors are fitted, so I can make the holes in the right place? I think the chrome strip, and the joining pieces might make good reference points.

I did think of visiting Sainsbury's car park with a tape, and wandering round 'til I found one, but thought better of it in case the owner thought I was up to no good.

I might even write it up as a how to, if I don't make an embarrasing mess of fitting!

From the lower edge of chrome strip to centre of sensors is two and half inches.

Starting from left side the first sensor is one inch left of joint.

Second sensor is fifteen and half inches centre to centre.

Third sensor is nineteen and three quarters centre to centre.

Fourth sensor is fifteen and half inches centre to centre

Fourth sensor is 1 inch to the right of the right hand joint

Hope this is clear, don't know how to do fractions.

I have no idea what PDC is or stands for, but by the gist of the thread I'll guess you're fitting OEM reversing sensors?

I did the exact same kitchen method with mine too

You'll also find the inside of your bumper is marked where to drill, so pilot from the inside to the outside, then use your tank cutter to drill from the outside in , going through the same pilot.

(mines not OEM, but you'll get the idea of the bumper, etc)

Don't forget to make sure it's raining when you do any work on your car outside. It's the law.

Everybody knows what PDC stands for Parking Distance Censors.

Ther may be a 'How To' if you have a look, or alternatively do a search 'cause it has been covered in full some time ago.
Will leave it to a 'Guru' to confirm but i am sure when you
remove and look at the back of the bumper the positions are moulded into the plastic so no need to measure. Have a look here :-

Ah. OK, apologies for not spotting the existing 'how to' but it is for aftermarket. Thanks for going out in the rain, I'd rather assumed it was dry where you were, as I was frimly hiding inside. Commitment or what......

Crofts, sorry but your link seems dead from here.

I do tend to search before posting, and had spotted the aftermarket one but bypassed it on the grounds of it not reffering to OE.

PDC = Park Distance Control. It's car industry jargon so sorry, but it seems to be in common useage.

I'll post results once it's done.
